Hydration Tips from a Dietitian
Do you struggle to drink enough water?
Me too! Hydration is an important component for promoting our health. Let’s review a few helpful tips together to help us reach our hydration goals.
Fresh Fruit Infused Water
If you're cutting up some fruit for a snack, set some aside to place in your water. If you muddle the fruit in your glass first with a fork or straw, a more robust flavor will out. Some of my favorite fresh fruits to use are orange, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries.
Frozen Fruit Infused Water
Frozen fruit is one of my favorite tricks. The frozen fruit doubles as your ice and gives a punch to your water. Some of my go to frozen fruit in water are mango, berry blend, and pineapple.
Unsweet Teas
I am from Texas but surprisingly have never been a sweet tea fan, I might have my yankee parents to thank for that. But instead of your typical unsweet black tea, there are so many tea variations out there. A lot of the herbal teas such as hibiscus tea are super refreshing iced. You can cold brew your tea in the fridge overnight using tea bags or loose leaf tea with a strainer.
Sugar Free Flavor Packets
The water section at the grocery store is accompanied by a whole wall of flavor packets and drops. These are typically sugar free which can be a great tool if you’re watching your blood sugars or being mindful of sugar sweetened beverage intake.
Fun Water bottle
I am a sucker for a fun, new water bottle. I am guilty for pursuing the water bottle and cute cup section at the store. But it’s true, it can be a helpful tool to meeting your hydration goal. Especially as it makes water convenient on the go, so that you can stay hydrated when you’re out and about at work, school, or running errands. My favorite water bottle at the moment is Owala since it is spill proof - I can throw it in my work backpack super easily!
